Melissa & Doug Vacuum Play Set 15150

Who left these shapes all over the floor? Time to vacuum them up! Six painted wooden pieces

(pretzel, peanut, bandage, coin, cereal Os, and a lost diamond ring) are a much cuter version

of the everyday messes that parents know all too well. Pass this clever “vacuum” overtop, and

they are swept into a compartment inside. Ready to play again? Open up the back panel, pull out

the pieces, and make another fun-filled “mess”!

More Ways to Play and Learn:

– Place the “trash” pieces in a straight line and help the child count them.

– Introduce simple addition by dividing the pieces into smaller groups and asking the child to count

the pieces in each group.

– Then push the pieces together and ask the child to count the total.

– Point to each piece and ask the child to identify all the colors that appear.

– Help the child identify all the shapes on the pieces.

– Scatter the pieces over a wide area. Name a color, shape, or pattern, and ask the child to use the vacuum to pick

up all the pieces that fit the rule.

– Scatter the pieces on the floor. While the child looks away, vacuum one of them up. Keep the piece hidden inside the

vacuum as the child asks questions and tries to guess which one you picked up.

– Challenge the child to vacuum up all of the pieces as quickly as possible.

– Dimensions: 19.5″ x 16″ x 5.5″ Assembled

Pleased that it is mostly wood and not all plastic – that makes it durable and recyclable later. The mechanics work well – pieces are picked up as they should be. Can make a game of spreading the pieces around the room, and test memory about what has been picked up and what is yet to be found (keep a piece in your pocket until the end, then slyly get it out).
Child likes being like mummy or daddy. Good price – very reasonable. You could pay more for a tech-hoover (one with sound effects) but why would you?

UPDATE: after several months, it still gets plenty of use. The “dust trap” is desirable as a secret hiding place for items apparently, as well as working as it should. 🙂

    Nicely made but with a flaw…, 25 Aug. 2014

This vacuum was a little simpler in construction than I was expecting. It is not powered in any way and when pushed along the wheels rotate a simple plastic mechanism at the bottom that scoops up the provided pieces. The trouble is you have to push down as well as forward with the vacuum to make it work effectively and although that is pretty instinctive for adults using it, children tend not to apply enough weight to it, so they push it along and skim over the top of the pieces. It’s a bit of a shame because it is a lovely thing to look at and solidly made, but sadly despite the initial excitement it proved to be of limited novelty value to my three year-old son.
