Vax at its best, 29 Aug. 2014

The Vax Air Compact is by far the best of the 7 vacuum cleaners I already have, including a Vax 1800 cylinder cleaner, a Vax cordless and 2 Vax upright vacuum cleaners. The suction, even at a low setting, lifts pet hair that my other cleaners can’t remove. The turbo tool (pet hair attachment) easily removes pet hair from curtains and chairs. I find that the normal floor head tool is sufficient to remove pet hair from rugs and carpets. I am amazed how clean the carpets and rugs are after using this vacuum cleaner.

The instruction booklet is very easy to understand with clear diagrams on what each part is and also on how to empty the dirt container. This is less complicated than my other cleaners.

Admittedly the vacuum cleaner is heavier than my other light weight ones but it is still easy to handle and easy to pull along. The cord is long enough to cleaner a 20 foot room and has the longest lead of all my cleaners.

I like the floor head tool and find that the bristles in little clumps do a very good job but need frequent cleaning with the nozzle because they lift so much fluff. As with all my other cleaners, the floor head is too big to go under the settee but I have never found one that will do this job so that can’t really be a huge fault.

The attachments are very good for cleaning the car.

Even at a high setting, the decibel sound does not deafen me or others in the house although I still have to switch it off to hear what someone is saying.

I admit I am a vacuum cleaning addict so this Vax Air Compact has made me very happy indeed! I just can’t fault it and would definitely recommend it and want a replacement should anything happen to this one.

Definitely worth 5*. Well done Vax!

As usual, some assembly is required; Time from box opening to switch-on was about 10 mins and most of that was unpacking all the brushes and attachments. The unit is small and light but is unwilling to follow you around in anything other than a straight line; it loves to get stuck just inside a doorway or around a corner then fall over when you give it a tug. Constantly having to go back and help it is tiresome, its supposed to be a vacuum not a toddler. The suction compared to my old cylinder is huge, this one can pick up the heavy rug in my living room which my previous could not but this can mean it sucks itself to the floor making it hard to push the head. The main issue with VAX seems to be the cheapness of the accessories. The Turbo head was an interesting item which seems to be aimed at removing pet hair from upholstery. All the rest of the tools seem perfunctory. My advice before you start anything with this is press down any red “velvet” pads you find on any tools otherwise they will fall off at first brush and if they get dirt or fluff under them they will never stick back again, I decided they were rubbish and peeled them off after a couple of uses. I feel it is very suitable for a flat or small house or for an older person with failing strength. The cable is not that long but I can reach everywhere I need with it. Compared to a recent upright I experienced this was very quiet. The metal pipe length is adjustable. The other thing as usual is the durability of the plastic, will it all last? The little plastic hook on the pipe that lets you sit the pipe on top of the unit for storage is a total joke but in general I like it. It loses the stars based on disobedience and accessory cheapness.

Powerful Little Cleaner, 3 Sept. 2014

The Air Mini Pet cylinder is an ultra lightweight and highly compact bagless vacuum cleaner with multi-cyclonic technology to provide constant, powerful suction. Multiple cyclones separate dirt from the air, so the suction is always as powerful as the first time you used it! It weighs 4.9kg making it easy to carry from up stairs and from room to room Also, it takes up less storage space than standard upright cleaners. It has a large dust capacity of 2L which ensures there will be less frequent emptying . The anti-bacterial filter is good for homes with allergy sufferers as it reduces bacteria, and allergens.

It has several tools to make life easier, including a combination floor head, crevice tool, upholstery tool and a TurboTool for removing stubborn hair from carpets, stairs and upholstery. It’s key features include, Multi-cyclonic technology; large 2L capacity; Cleaning Tools and it is compact and easy to manoeuvre.

I took delivery of this cleaner recently and immediately put it through it’s paces. I had vacuumed the carpets with my old cleaner a couple of days before, so I wasn’t expecting any great results dust on pick up, but I was wrong; the VAX found more dust and hairs in the carpets. I was really impressed.

Also I am really pleased with the fact that it is so light and easy to pull around. I used the combination floor head, and set it to carpets and found the suction to be very powerful. Finally the Cleaner is so compact, it easily fits into my tiny cupboard.

Now for the negatives:- Having now used it several times, I have a few issues with this cleaner.

Firstly connecting the tools to the vacuum. The hose connector to the actual cleaner is actually quite difficult for me to connect. There are two clips on either side of the hose which you need to squeeze to allow the hose to be connected into the cleaner. I appreciate it needs to be a secure connection, but it took me quite a while to actually connect the hose to the cleaner. I think the hose connector is quite wide and I struggled to squeeze and push at the same time, given I have slight arthritis in my hands.

Other reviewers have mentioned the hose kinks, well I too found this, even though it is supposed to be ‘non-kink’.

The quality of the tools aren’t that great. The small tool used for the stairs has two pieces of red felt underneath – both have already started to come off. Also the lever on the carpet/floor tool just will not stay in position. I set it for carpet and it flips over to the floor, so not impressed with that at all..

The hose isn’t long enough and I find the cleaner tips as I pull. In addition, the electric lead is not very long either.

Finally Cosmetically it looks great but it really doesn’t feel very robust and I am wondering whether it will last as long as my previous cleaner did, which was over 10 years, so the jury is out on this one.
