These notes are written for Silver Surfers but may be useful to other readers.
I have had the product for a month and am very pleased with what is is designed for, ie, it is not in competition with its big brothers’which beats as it sweeps etc.

One of its main advantages is its weight (When my wife says, “its light” it is !) For skirmishing carpets, kitchen floors etc it is excellent. Unlike a dustbuster being mains operated it does not suffer from re-charging batteries running down in minutes plus it covers a larger floor area very efficiently.

The owners guide, once you have read/glanced at/ or skipped through the mandatory 3 pages on health and safety the instructions are clear and concise. it is simple to assemble and can be ready for use in minutes. The dust cup (ie, filter) unlike a Ewbank cleaner is easy to fit and clean. I recommend it.

Purchased this item for my elderly mother who needs lightweight, easy-to-use, with simple button controls. The Zanussi seems to fulfill all these criterion and she is able to use it successfully around the house.

Do not be misled by this stick vacuum. It has 140 watts of motor power and barely any air watts. Lightweight and easy to store are perhaps this stick vac’s saving graces. Purchased for our small office, the red Zanussi ZAN 161G looked like a good deal at the time as we needed a very small upright to get rid of general light dust from short pile carpet and hard flooring in the nearby kitchen – far easier to lift and push than our normal Henry vacuum though, the Zanussi isn’t very noisy but it can be a chore to use on carpets because the floor head is tiny, the suction channel is too small to cope with things as small as paper clips and the actual suction power isn’t very easy to feel at the bottom of the floor head. There are tiny wheels which do allow the floor head to move on hard floors and this is where the Zanussi stick vacuum excels. It is on carpet that it suffers on the most though, often ploughing on carpets and feeling like the long black rod spine before the plastic handle will break off.

The filter inside the dust cup is a paper washable dust buster type filter that will also clog fairly quickly. Although the filter cup is washable, Zanussi don’t stock a spare one with the machine to enable you to use the filter whilst the old one dries out – and we had to wait 24 hours until the filter was bone dry before it could be dropped back in. One aspect I do appreciate is that Zanussi have incorporated a scraper at the back of the main bin, which allows you to scrape the paper filter clean once it has been removed from the body.

Due to the lack of suction, despite mains power (and the cord is quite short on this model) it is a pity that Zanussi don’t supply any other small cleaning tools with this machine as it would probably do better if it had a hose attachment rather than just rely on the T shaped floor head alone – and for all that it is effectively a low power dust buster with a long spine handle, it is impossible to use the machine as a hand held because no hand grip is located at the top before the bin.

One of our workers commented that this stick vac in particular was also sold as an Electrolux Superbroom in dark green many years ago, and just seems to be the same model under the Electrolux umbrella company who just happen to own Zanussi. Despite the colour, I would strongly recommend not to buy this mains power stick vac in the hope that it will clean carpets, short pile and any soft furnishings – it simply doesn’t have enough suction to cope. On hard floors it excels well, but for anything else forget it! Replaced the model with a cordless Gtech SW02 which is far better and totally easier to use – with much better performance on both hard floors and carpets.
